The real story behind Story of a Rabbit

Some of us in the media have observed people going and then leaving the performance with very young children. Today in fact, there was a 3-year-old who made it about half way through before being escorted out by his patient mother. I'm wondering if the title is throwing people off. So just to be clear: It's not about a rabbit. It's about death and the ironies of existence. In other words, it's not for kids. Though it's not graphic in any way, kids might be frightened by the story of Hugh Hughes finding his dad dead on the floor of the township's clock tower. Spoleto doesn't have a history of serving kiddie fare, so I can't imagine informed people seriously expecting a bunny story. But it would be funny if Nigel Redden, head of the festival, clarified, saying with his indistinct accent: "Spoleto doesn't do bunnies." -JS
