Word of Advice

Never sit on the right side of the Charleston Music Hall. Not on the orchestra level. And not on a weekend. The reason? You can hear everything from clinking glasses to people chattering to the cranked-up amplifiers next door at Coast. Really. Does the band need to be that loud in a little place like Coast? I think people can hear just fine. We certainly did inside the Music Hall. This would have been a major distraction had we been there to see a lesser talent than Florin Niculescu, the amazing jazz violinist from Paris. As it was, he performed graciously and generously with a fiery intensity that (most of the time) consumed the noise from next door. Even so, next time, I'll sit on the left side. -JS
