In this week’s paper, I wrote about one of this year’s dominant trends: The monologue. I think the simple efficiency of these shows will go a long way toward defining Spoleto 2010.
For Charleston audiences, one of the most familiar monologues is the Banana Monologues, performed by John Brennan. The Theatre 99 regular moved to New York last year, where he works as a caterer when he’s not taking classes at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. He’s returned for Piccolo Spoleto with his classic show, although he’s taken on a new character; Camille Lowman plays his ex, Alexis.
