The Charleston Library Society launched their Wide Angle Lunches Series last month, bringing cultural and political authorities to speak to a casual lunchtime crowd. The third installment on Thurs. Oct. 14 will feature Nigel Redden, who’s served as Spoleto Festival’s general director for nearly two decades. He’s also the director of New York’s Lincoln Center Festival. His lecture, which begins at 12:30 p.m., is entitled “Bringing the world to the city: The Spoleto USA and Lincoln Center Festivals.”
Upcoming speakers include Geoffrey Van Orden on Turkey and its relationship with the West (Oct. 21); Thomas S. Tisdale on A. Toomer Porter, the Civil War and Reconstruction Era (Oct. 28); and Kea L. Gorden on traditional culture and South Africa (Nov. 11).
Tickets, which include lunch, are $10 for members and $14 for non-members. Seats are limited, and advance registrations are encouraged. Call (843) 723-9912 or go to charlestonlibrarysociety.org.
