Owner of Mount Pleasant bar sues county over smoking ban
Richard Ruth, owner of Richard's Bar and Grill on Hwy 17 in Mount Pleasant filed suit against Charleston County over a smoking ban set to go into effect October 4. Ruth vowed to the City Paper last month that he would fight the law, saying "I'm not gonna take this ass-whipping from Charleston County."

SC leads national increase in huntng, fishing
A new U.S. Fish and Wildlife survey shows an uptick in the number of people taking up hunting and fishing—a 40% increase in South Carolina from 2006-2011, dwarfing 9-11% growth nationally.

A villa in Elliotborough
There's plenty of new construction in the Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhood, but tucked away off Ashley Avenue just south of the Crosstown, you'll find one home that's not like the others. The Palladio-inspired 'villa' is a tiny case study in classical architecture and urban infill development ("preshrunk" as the New York Times put it), designed by George Holt and Andrew Gould, who also cobbled together the pocket neighborhood along Tully Alley off St. Philip St.

Mt. Pleasant's Bowman Road to re-open
Your drive from Hwy. 17 near I-526 to Coleman Blvd will get a little shorter later today as the new Shem Creek Bridge on Bowman Road partially re-opens to traffic.

Grace Episcopal sanctuary re-opens (again)
Grace Episcopal can once again hold Sunday worship services in its Wentworth St. sanctuary after more than a year of repair work was done to fix damage from an August 2011 Virginia earthquake that shook the church. The church previously underwent major renovations to strengthen its foundation and structure.
