Today's Board of Architectural Review meeting (4:30 on the third floor of 75 Calhoun St.) is set to be a doozy. Among the projects up for approval by the city board:

•Owner Frederick Fields seeks demolition approval and conceptual approval for new construction of a one-story restaurant at 63 Spring St., the former home of Books, Herbs, & Spices, Inc.
• Owner JRA Family LLC seeks preliminary approval for new construction of a six-story hotel over parking at 79 Wentworth St.
• The Charleston Housing Authority seeks final approval for the new four-story Williams Terrace Senior Housing on Laurens Street.
• Owner Carolyn Torlay seeks conceptual approval for new construction of an eight-story mixed-use building over tow levels of parking at 24-30 Woolfe St.
• Owner Gathering at Morris Square seeks final approval for renovation of a relocated church building that previously sat in the middle of Dereef Park, now at 78 Morris St.

In what will likely be the most-discussed item on tonight's agenda, Clemson University will seek preliminary approval for the design of the Spaulding Paolozzi Center, the new home of the Clemson Architecture Center at 292 Meeting St. The sleek, modern design features a lot of concrete and glass, and it's taken no shortage of flak from the keepers of traditional architecture styles in Charleston. Last week, the City Paper got a chance to catch up with world-renowned architect Brad Cloepfil of Allied Works, who has been drafting the designs alongside EE Fava Architects. You can read that interview here.

Below are some of the images being submitted to the Board of Architectural Review tonight. The full meeting agenda can be found here, and the packet of images for all of the proposals can be found here.
