That  could  be us  one day, waiting in lines to fill up our water jugs. Hurricanes have blown through here before and and odds are it will happen again — which got Mickey Bakst thinking. We should reach out as a city to the people of the Philippines who are grappling with the devastation from the largest storm in recorded history and do something.

Bakst, the driving force behind Chefs Feed the Need and general manager of Charleston Grill, along with Mayor Joe Riley, various media outlets (including the City Paper), and hospitality organizations are putting the call out to Charleston, hoping to raise $1 million and send 40 water purification systems from Water Missions International to the Philippines.

The campaign is called Charleston Responds. Make a donation, share the links, and spread the word, using #CHSresponds.
