Paul Roof, the former Charleston Southern University professor who made national headlines when his college declined to renew his contract after his image appeared on a beer can, has taken a job at the College of Charleston.
According a Facebook post by Roof, he will teach four sections of Introduction to Sociology and one section of American Popular Culture at the public college starting this fall. The fall semester would have been the start of his seventh year at CSU, a school affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention.
"Thank you friends again for all the thoughts, messages, meetings, prayers, positive vibes, etc. sent my way and to my family," Roof said in the Facebook post. "Have a great 4th of July with your friends and family and let freedom ring."
A College of Charleston spokesperson confirmed that Roof has been issued an adjunct contract in the school's Department of Sociology and Anthropology. The spokesperson also noted that Roof "previously taught for the college in a visiting position and was in good standing as a faculty member when he left the College of Charleston."
