Along with your neighbors' tacky twinkle lights and that awful Paul McCartney Christmas song, the holidays mean parades, lightings, and free parking in downtown Charleston. The most wonderful time of the year!
You read that right. Now through January 1, you can park fo' free for up to two hours in a number of downtown parking garages. That's just long enough to crush a track burger at Rarebit and grab gifts for everyone on your list. So, go ahead and print off this voucher for safe-keeping through the holidays.
This weekend, grinning community leaders across the Lowcountry will flip the switches on their respective holiday trees and kick off a slew of holiday events. Here are just a few...
Sullivans Island - The fire department will flip the switch on their Christmas tree this evening (12/5) at 5:30pm.
Charleston - Charleston hosts its tree lighting in Marion Square this Saturday (12/6) at 4pm, followed by the holiday parade on Sunday. The Charleston Farmers Market will also be open on Saturday and Sunday each weekend this month through the 21st. Chanukah and Kwanzaa celebrations are also planned for later this month. (See the full schedule on the back of the parking voucher.)
North Charleston - The North Charleston Christmas Festival kicks off at 3pm Saturday (12/6) with a parade and tree lighting in Park Circle and continues into the evening with performances. Check the full schedule here.
Isle of Palms - I.O.P. is holding their holiday celebration from 2-5pm on Saturday (12/6).
Mount Pleasant - They light the tree in Mt. P next weekend and also host a Friday night (12/12) movie and Holiday Market and Craft Show on Saturday.
Folly Beach - The annual Folly Beach Christmas parade is next Saturday (12/13) at 1pm.
