The Charleston Police Department is currently investigating a threatening call received by Emanuel AME Church.
On Dec. 6, an unknown caller left a message on the church’s voicemail mentioning Dylann Roof, the young man charged with entering the church on the evening of June 17 and opening fire on the parishioners taking part in Bible study, killing nine.
A member of the church discovered the message on the morning of Dec. 10. In the recording, the caller states, “Hey guys, this is Dylann. I’m coming back for round 2,” according to an incident report.
The caller continues, “I’m just kidding. That actually wasn’t Dylann Roof,” before ending the call.
An incident report says that the sound of keyboard typing can be heard in the background at the end of the message. The church member who first heard the recording told police that this was the only threatening message left on the church’s voicemail.
A spokesperson for the Charleston Police Department said the investigation is still ongoing.
