Two dead in Ravenel Bridge shooting

Shooting will not affect Bridge Run schedule

Both individuals involved in Thursday evening’s shooting on the Ravenel Bridge have died as a result of injuries sustained in the shooting. According to a statement from the Mt. Pleasant Police Department, there are no other suspects or individuals believed to be involved with the incident. The identities of the those involved in the shooting have yet to be released. 

At approximately 8:45 p.m. Thursday evening officers responded to a reported shooting on the pedestrian walkway of the Ravenel Bridge. Northbound lanes of the bridge were closed until just before 11 p.m. as officers investigated the scene. The two individuals involved in the shooting were transported to a nearby hospital, and news of their deaths was announced Friday morning.

Police say the shooting will not have an impact on the Cooper River Bridge Run scheduled to begin Saturday morning. A press conference with Charleston County Coroner Rae Wooten and Mt. Pleasant Police Chief Carl Ritchie is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday to discuss the investigation.
