Saturday afternoon at about 4 p.m., a North Charleston-made Boeing 787 Dreamliner deviated from its normal flight path and headed down to Hilton Head Island for a quick flyby over the RBC Heritage pro golf tournament which Boeing sponsors.
The Dreamliner, bearing a Vietnam Airlines livery, no doubt caused a few spilled Chardonnays as it took a hard starboard bank over the 18th green at the Harbour Town Golf Links, showing off the plane's handling. Almost half of the 787's frame is made of lightweight carbon fiber, which has a high strength-to-weight ratio, making the Dreamliner a surprisingly nimble jumbo jet. The jet that flew over Hilton Head looks to be fresh off the North Charleston assembly line.
South African Branden Grace finished the tournament on Sunday with a final round 66 to win the RBC Heritage's plaid jacket, notching the 27-year old first PGA Tour win.
