Charleston Police Department
By now you’ve probably heard plenty about the Illumination Project — an effort by the Charleston Police Department to gauge the community’s perception of local law enforcement and develop new procedures to improve public-police relations.
Well, after almost a year after the project was first announced, those behind the Illumination Project are ready to present the first draft of strategies aimed at bolstering trust in the community.
This Tuesday and Thursday at Greater St. Luke AME Church on 78 Gordon St., the public will have the opportunity to offer input on the 86 recommended strategies — 66 of which came from the almost 800 citizens who participated in the small group listening sessions over the past five months. Each public input session will take place from 6:30-8 p.m., and the public is invited to provide written comments on the proposed strategies.
