Fans of Raven Saunders gathered at Burke High School last week to watch the young Olympian compete
Finishing fifth in Olympic women’s shot put, Lowcountry native Raven Saunders may not have earned a medal, but she has earned a big welcome home.
In honor of Saunders’ return to Charleston, a parade will be held Thursday evening beginning at 6 p.m. Those wishing to participate can line up at Burke High School at President and Sumter streets. The parade will travel east on Sumter Street, turning onto King Street, and ending in Marion Square.
And as with any parade, there will be street closures. According to the Charleston Police Department, it will be necessary to close intersections on King Street as the participants approach these intersections. Those intersections will reopen once the participants pass. Also, the police say that Calhoun Street between Meeting and St. Phillip streets will be closed to traffic as the parade approaches because this is the break-down area.
