While most people are likely unable to match Lake City-native Darla Moore's recent $1 million donation to the International African American Museum, there is still a way to contribute to the museum effort.

Set to break ground in early 2018, the $75 million museum is relying on public and private funds. Charleston County and the city of Charleston have pledged $25 million to build the museum. Last session, members of the South Carolina House of Representatives pulled additional funding for the museum from the most recent state budget. At the time, lawmakers said they wanted to wait until the museum reached its $25 million private funding goal before set aside any more money for the project.

Now, as the museum has surpassed the half-way mark toward its fundraising goal, supporters for the effort can contribute online at iaamuseum.org. Individual donations can be scheduled monthly, quarterly, or as a one-time gift.
