According to a new poll, a large majority of South Carolinians want to give authorities more time to complete background checks when someone is buying a gun and close the Charleston loophole. The poll also found that a majority of South Carolinians are against totally banning abortion in all cases. Source: The State

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has decided to retire the names Florence and Michael for storms. They will be replaced with the names Francine and Milton, which are even scarier. Source: The State

Jonathan Green has been awarded the Order of the Palmetto for the second time. The Order of the Palmetto is S.C.'s highest honor for civilians and recognizes Green for his art depicting African-Americans in the Lowcountry. Source: P&C
