It’s come-to-Jesus time for anyone wanted to get in on the S.C. Film Commission’s second annual Film Production Fund grant awards. The deadline for submission of script and project ideas is August 31. (If you’re planning on participating in August’s 48-Hour Film Project, there’s that much less time to waste.) Local filmmaker Brad Jayne’s 30-minute short Song of Pumpkin Brown was one of two projects the fund ponied up for in its first year. By all accounts, the Film Commision counts that $100K investment a success. Pumpkin’s been traveling the festival circuit and earning praise from viewers all over the place.
Not sure how to apply? Next Wed. July 11, the Film Commission and Trident Technical College — one of the Fund’s three academic partners — will host a meeting for filmmakers wanting to apply for grants from the new initiative. The meeting takes place at 6 p.m. at TTC North on 7000 Rivers Ave., Building 410, Student Center, Room 214. It’s free, and if you’re there, you’ll get specific advice and guidance on how to apply for the grant and get your short film funded up to $100K.
