Sassy Southern Sugar

Author Brooke Parkhurst is a Southern gal, a fact that’s abundantly clear in her chick-lit novel Belle in the Big Apple, a book that follows the travails of the southern Belle Lee (get it) as she ditches her family, the South, and her black maid and heads to New York to make it as a journalist. Sprinkled throughout the pages are favorite recipes like “Debutante Tea Cakes,” “Seven Layer Salad,” and “Lemon Chess Squares.” Parkhurst, a Southern girl who moved to the Big Apple and made it as a writer and TV personality, will be in town for a book signing and reading at K. Morgan  (225 King St.) this Thursday, Oct. 16 from 6-8 p.m. Visit or call K. Morgan boutique for more information, (843) 577-0924. —Stephanie Barna
