When: Sat., Aug. 23, 12-5 p.m. 2014
Sometimes when we’re having a bad day, we go back to that 2007 YouTube video of the Atlanta reporter who fell while stomping grapes. We know it’s not nice to find joy in other people’s embarrassment, but we can’t help ourselves. Hopefully, the grape stompers at the 11th annual Irvin~House Vineyard grape stomp won’t have the same fate as the reporter. To make sure more people have the chance to get their feet dirty while stepping on the muscadine grapes from the vineyard, Irvin~House has introduced another round in their contest, bringing the grand total to three rounds of stomping. Unfortunately, all the spots have been filled. “We’re currently on a waiting list, but we had someone call in who said they didn’t mind since last year they were on the list and got to stomp,” says Fran Collins, of the vineyard. And if you prefer your feet clean, there’s still plenty to do at the fest. The vineyard will host their annual I Love Lucy look-alike contest, and there’ll be tons of vendors selling their goods, from Homespun Hoops to art to jewelry. Of course, you can sample Firefly and the Irvin~House wines in the tasting rooms, but there’ll also be wine, beer, and wine-a-ritas — margaritas made with wine — to sip on as well. Kids can pass the time in the jump castle, getting their faces painted, or exploring the wildlife — be on the lookout for the mini Brahma cow. And to make sure you don’t get hungry, food trucks will be on site too, including Dulce, Home Team BBQ, Coastal Crust, and more.
