When: Sat., April 18, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. 2015
James Island County Park's Climbing Wall will host the largest outdoor climbing competition in the Southeast - the Palmetto Pump & USA Climbing Competition. Each year, the competition attracts climbers throughout the mid-Atlantic and Southeastern US, all scaling the park’s 50-foot tall climbing wall that features over 4,500 square feet of climbing space. The competition is presented by the Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission and Half Moon Outfitters, held in conjunction with USA Climbing and part of the excitement of this year's East Coast Paddlesports and Outdoor Festival. Climbers of all ages and abilities are invited to compete, and no competition experience is necessary. This year's competition will be a Flash Format. Members of the public who want to check out the region's best climbing action are invited to come out to James Island County Park to cheer on the 70+ climbers on site. Spectators are free of charge with the park's $1 per person admission fee. Competition is open to ages 4 and up, and categories are determined by age and gender. Registration is open through April 16. Climbers ages 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult chaperone.
