When: Thu., Nov. 27, 9-11 a.m. 2014
Between the cold weather and the massive meals, we often find ourselves in a lazy slump around the holidays. This year will be different, though. Instead of waiting around to stuff ourselves full of yummies, start your Thanksgiving at the 37th Annual Turkey Day Run and Gobble Wobble. Running or walking a 5K will make you feel less guilty about that second helping of mashed potatoes or mac ‘n’ cheese later. Participants start at Marion Square, head south down Meeting Street, continue along the Battery, and end north on King where they will finish the race in front of the Francis Marion Hotel. After the 5K, there will be a children’s run, broken up into different age categories. Stick around for the after-party and awards ceremony where there’ll be fun activities, live music, and free food and beverages, including beer. Cash prizes in the amounts of $500, $250, and $100 will be rewarded to the top male and female finishers. An additional $500 bonus will be awarded if you set a new course record. Every year, the Turkey Day Run and Gobble Wobble benefits local charities. The Turkey Day Run aims to raise funds for over 24 different local non-profit organizations, says media director Danielle Snider. This year’s charities include Charleston Miracle League, Fields to Families, Lowcountry Food Bank, Pet Helpers, Special Olympics of South Carolina, Toys for Tots, Water Missions International, and more.
