'70s Soul Jam

When: Sat., Jan. 17, 8 p.m. 2009

New music ain’t got no soul. It’s lacking in harmonizing, heartfelt lyrics, and matching velour suits. Everybody knows it’s true. Harken back to the glory days of 1970s soul this Saturday at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center. Classic soulmasters the Stylistics, Heatwave, Manhattans, and the Main Ingredient with Cuba Gooding Sr. (yep, Cuba Junior’s pop) will be filling the air with funk. You might know them for songs like “I Just Don’t Want to Be Lonely,” (Cuba Gooding), “Don’t Take Your Love,” (The Manhattans), “You Make Me Feel Brand New,” (The Stylistics), and “Gangsters of the Groove” (Heatwave). Even if you don’t think you’ve heard of them, you probably have. And you’ll be boogying on down at the PAC. —Erica Jackson

Price: $37.50, $43.50
