Theatre /Verv/ presents Sam Shepard’s acclaimed play A Lie of the Mind, a three-act journey set in the American West. Alternating between two extremely dysfunctional families, the play begins after an incident of spousal abuse and continues as each family deals with the traumatic event in their own way. “We’re excited to bring this classic tale to Charleston,” says Arlene Lagos, the show’s assistant producer. “This isn’t a normal play. It’s deep, dramatic, and brings a different style of humor.” The play also marks the stage directorial debut of popular local independent filmmaker John Barnhardt. Lagos says, “John brings an interesting take, setting up very organic scenes for the actors that showcase their abilities and character nuances.” A Lie of the Mind has received accolades from The New York Times, The New Yorker, and Time magazine. The play was also awarded the New York Drama Critics Circle Award, Outer Critics Circle Award, and Drama Desk Award.
