Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day

When: Sat., Jan. 28, 3 p.m. and Sun., Jan. 29, 3 p.m. 2012

If reality television has taught us anything, it’s that even folks with the most seemingly perfect lifestyles still have really bad days, but it’s pretty easy to agree that the star of Charleston Stage’s new musical production has a day that makes Kim Kardashian’s divorce look like a cakewalk. Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day — which is based on the children’s book of the same name — takes audience members through a day in the life of a kid who, even by adult standards, endures a day that would make anyone want to throw in the towel. Between awaking with gum in his hair, discovering a cavity, getting pushed in the mud, and eating lima beans for dinner, Alexander bravely (if crankily) comes out looking like a champ. Even though folks of all ages will enjoy his comic misadventures, be sure to bring your kids along, because the sooner they learn about this absurdist world we live in, the better.
