Beat the heat. Every year, the American Film Series offers an air-conditioned reprieve from the sweaty trek from Spoleto shows to Piccolo performances. Take an afternoon break at the Main Library on Calhoun Street at one of these free screenings.
A pupu platter of films. There doesn't seem to be much of a theme to this year's offerings, besides the fact that they are some pretty great movies. Think The Shawshank Redemption, Braveheart, Raging Bull, and even the best of the best, Citizen Kane.
They wish they were ballers. Our top pick from this series: Hoop Dreams, Steve James' documentary about two black teenagers aspiring to make it big in the NBA. It clocks in at about three hours, but we bet it's well worth it.
