Those local fans of popular reality/singing contest shows may enjoy a special musical treat this holiday weekend at the Windjammer on the Isle of Palms (1008 Ocean Blvd.). Young pop vocalist and American Idol veteran Elliot Yamin (third place, Season 5) is set to perform at 5 p.m. on Mon. May 25 at the club. Admission is free and the show is open to all ages.
Yamin was called a "vocal masterclass" by Simon Cowell, and delivered what Entertainment Weekly called one of the top three best American Idol performances ever. He entered the competition as a drugstore clerk with no vocal training, 90 percent hearing loss in his right ear, and managing a diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes that required he wear an insulin pump. In the end, he finished right behind Taylor Hicks and Katherine McPhee.
Yamin recently release a debut single from his latest collection, title track "Fight For Love." The album features co-writing from the former American Idol contestant and heavy-hitting producers Jermaine Dupri, Stargate, Midi Mafia, and others.
The 'Jammer's annual Budweiser Bikini Bash series will be in full fling on the oceanside deck as well, as an extra Memorial Day round is schedule for early afternoon.
