After being away from Charleston for 13 years, interior designer Michael Mitchell returns to host Art for Charity, a month-long pop-up art gallery and fundraising event. The space will show artwork from 27 South Carolina artists, including R.L. Gibson, Alicia Leeke, Carol Kamm, and Elena Madden. Art for Charity’s main purpose is to raise money and bring awareness to eight different local charities: MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, Charleston Breast Center, MUSC Children’s Hospital, Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House, American Red Cross, S.C. Aquarium, and Roper St. Francis’ Ryan White Program. “I woke up one night with a vision and thought, why not?” Mitchell says. “By hosting Art for Charity on King Street in conjunction with Spoleto, I hope to increase awareness and contributions for these charities and showcase more than 20 South Carolina artists,” Mitchell says. The gallery will be open to the public daily. Art for Charity will also host eight events throughout the month dedicated to a sponsored charity. While each charity is sending out their own invitations for the events, walk-ins are encouraged with a $10 donation. Dates are available on the Art for Charity blog.
