New York artist and filmmaker Paul Tschinkel has documented the New York art world since the 1970s. His ongoing film series ART/new york presents in-depth interviews with artists, and the Halsey screens two of his earlier productions this September, Number 27: Louise Bourgeois (1987) and Number 40: Kiki Smith (1994). "Video is a huge way we consume information now, but Paul has been working with the format for most of his life," Bryan Granger, Halsey's manager of exhibitions and public programs, says. "Tschinkel has a knack for getting artists to open up; these videos grant access to these artists in informal settings while also showing what they were thinking about in the heyday of their careers." Tschinkel will lead a Q&A after the screening.
