Barolo Dinner

When: Fri., Aug. 6, 6 p.m. 2010

Food and travel writer Matthew Gavin Frank, author of Barolo (a memoir about his work in the Piedmontese Italian food and wine industry), is making a few stops in Charleston this week, promoting his book at a number of readings around town. In Frank’s honor, Trattoria Lucca’s Chef Ken Vedrinski will prepare a four-course dinner on Friday night inspired by Piedmontese cuisine, paired with wines from the region.

The night begins with a book signing and reception with the author. The meal begins with a carne crudo, with lemon, celery, and colatura di alici, paired with the Deltetto Arneis San Michele 2006. Next is olive oil-poached duck, Bra Vecchio, and browned goat butter, with Castello di Neive, Barbera Santo Stefano 2008, and then a Barolo-braised veal cheek with organic Acquarello Carneroli risotto, pickled chanterelles, with Luigi Fernando, Canavese Rosso La Torrazza 2008. Dessert is a Gianduia chocolate bundino with sea salt and olive oil, paired with Nebbiolo di Chianato N/V. The dinner costs $75, excluding tax and gratuity. Reservations are required.
