The S.C. Center for the Book recently named Charleston author Batt Humphreys the winner of the 2010 Palmetto Book Award for excellence in writing. Dead Weight is the debut novel from the former senior producer for CBS, based on the true story of State vs. Daniel Duncan. It’s already won the IPPY gold medal for best true crime novel in 2010 from the Independent Publisher Awards; first place Benjamin Franklin Award for best work of historic fiction; and a top medal from Foreword Magazine for best historic fiction. It was also read in its entirety on NPR this spring. It’s published by Joggling Board Press.
