Beale Street Beginnings. While living in Memphis, Florida-based musician Ben Prestage became a street performer on Beale Street and gained serious attention for his skills with the guitar, harmonica, banjo, lap-steel, fiddle, resonator guitar, and foot-drums, as well as his original songs. He is the recipient of "The Most Unique Performer" award at the Songwriters' Showcase of America, and his talents have earned him invitations to perform across the globe.
Musical heritage. Prestage's musical background spans several generations — his great-grandmother was a vaudeville musician.
He's got the blues. Prestage has returned to Memphis the past few years for the International Blues Challenge, which is the world's largest gathering of blues musicians. In three consecutive years, he took fourth, third, and second place. He's also the only two-time recipient of the Lyon/Pitchford Award for Best Diddley-Bow Player, speaking to his skills with stringed instruments.
