Beresford Studios

Staff Pick

Blink and you might miss it. Located in the heart of downtown, there’s College of Charleston senior Neal Rice’s little studio, Beresford. The space has already hosted two exhibits from artists Chambers Austelle and Hirona Matsuda, both with installation aspects. Rice wanted to create a space for contemporary art in the city, especially the kind of art that requires a little more room and, heck, maybe even a little more fun. Austelle’s Birdcage featured a setup reminiscent of her living room, and Matsuda’s 1218 is its own little world, with strings of maple seeds dancing throughout the studio. You know that wonder and awe that kids get when reading a fairy tale? Well, multiply that times 10 and grow up a bit, there’s a whole world of art out there. —Connelly Hardaway
