People love fantasizing about living in Charleston, which is why they love books and movies set in Charleston, and they love Nicholas Sparks, Dorothea Benton Frank, Bret Lott, and Sue Monk Kidd. Kidd, who lives in Mt. Pleasant, generated the most buzz this year thanks to the big-screen adaptation of her best-selling novel The Secret Life of Bees. Starring Jennifer Hudson, Dakota Fanning, and Queen Latifah, the movie is set in 1960s South Carolina and follows Fanning on her quest to learn about her mother. Chick-flick lovers everywhere were in heaven.
