College students and budget travelers groaned with the December announcement that AirTran would no longer operate out of Charleston. For the past two years, the Atlanta-based airline provided frequent fliers with cheap flights to most major airports. The loss of AirTran allowed other airlines, including Delta and Continental, to increase their prices. AirTran reportedly didn’t get as many business passengers as they had hoped for. Until we get another affordable carrier, we’ll have to settle for Greyhound.
