Reporting on arts organizations is tricky. Arts groups aren't businesses, so you can't cover them like a business reporter. At the same time, they are businesses, so you have to cover them like a business reporter. It's not a paradox; it just sounds like one. Arts journalism requires a sharp, critical eye and an understanding of humanity and creative passion. The crisis among Charleston's three biggest performing arts groups was dropped in Parker's lap, and he's been running full-speed since.
