Best Business Writer on the Arts Beat

Adam Parker

Adam Parker
The Post and Courier

Reporting on arts organizations is tricky. Arts groups aren't businesses, so you can't cover them like a business reporter. At the same time, they are businesses, so you have to cover them like a business reporter. It's not a paradox; it just sounds like one. Arts journalism requires a sharp, critical eye and an understanding of humanity and creative passion. The crisis among Charleston's three biggest performing arts groups was dropped in Parker's lap, and he's been running full-speed since. In particular, his pieces on the Charleston Symphony Orchestra have explained why it's in trouble and established the facts of a conversation that will continue through the year. Not bad for a guy who never covered the arts before.
