Here’s to him. Who’s like him? Damn few — and they’re dead. That time-honored toast seems like a fitting salute to Sean Brock. This year the chef released his years-in-the-works cookbook, Heritage, and opened a new restaurant, the Mexican fast-casual joint Minero — love that mezcal list and those Valencia-covered, bag-tossed smoked wings. Oh, and he just got two James Beard Award finalist nominations: one for the American Cooking category of best new cookbooks and his third nom in a row for Outstanding Chef. Just when we think he might take a break, he comes back for more. Readers agree, Brock rocks. We can’t wait to see what the Charleston celebuchef has in store in 2015.
