Best Coaching Controversy

College of Charleston

Staff Pick

Things started to make sense for Cougar fans last summer when reports came out saying that College of Charleston men’s basketball coach Doug Wojcik had been accused of mistreating players and was left with little support on the team or the CofC administration. On his final day as president, George Benson passed on firing Wojcik, starting the clock on a few weeks of a stalemate between the college and Wojcik, who had lawyered up big-time. Ultimately, Wojcik was dismissed, and the school landed with Stall High School graduate and former Clemson assistant coach Earl Grant to head up the Cougar squad. The team won just nine games in the 2014-2015 campaign, but most agree that Grant gets a pass since he was hired a month before tip-off.
