The Holy City is not really known as a hub of heavy metal, but you’ll find plenty of headbangers among the flip-flop rockers. There’s Godwin Falcon, Marytre, Skwril Grinda, and you can even kinda-sorta throw Saint Diablo into the mix. (Lead singer Tito Quinones lives here part-time.) And then there’s Wolf Lord. They have the unique distinction of penning what we’re guessing is the only concept album about a necromancer who casts a spell that brings about a zombie apocalypse. Subject matter aside, Krixes is an unholy mix of Mastodon and pre-Yellow and Green album Baroness and Deliverance-era Corrosion of Conformity. It’s good stuff if whiplash is your thing.
