Best Crossword Puzzle That Looks Like a Game of Scrabble

Charleston Mercury

When writing about the Charleston Mercury, there's just so much to say. There's the paper that it's printed on — it's the color of Children's Tylenol. There's the stable of special correspondents on staff — the Special Political Correspondent, the Special Financial Correspondent, the Special National Security Correspondent, the Special Middle East Correspondent. (One look at their writing and you'll agree that "special" is most definitely the right term to use.) The one thing that is truly worthy is "The Mercury Wizard," the Salmon Sheets' very own crossword puzzle. In reality, the Mercury's crossword doesn't resemble a densely blocked behemoth as much as a partially filled out Scrabble board with an instructional agenda. (OK. To be perfectly honest, I'm only basing this on the past two crosswords.)
