Best Display of Rush Hour Solidarity

The Ravenel Bridge 4

Staff Pick

Back in April, the City Paper received an exciting tip: a group of protesters were going to shut down the Ravenel Bridge during rush hour. OK, tip isn’t the correct word. We actually received a full-on press release from the group. As fate would have it, we ran our report, the police swarmed to the bridge, and the protesters backed out. However, just a few weeks later, four protesters finally made good on that promise, shutting down traffic on the bridge for a few minutes in protest of the treatment of black men and women at the hands of law enforcement. Unfortunately, the move did little to win people over to their side. Instead, all it did was anger a bunch of commuters who were trying to get home after a long day at work. —Chris Haire
