The wine may be from Napa, but the headquarters for Mira Winery are right here in Charleston. That has to do with president Jim “Bear” Dyke’s love of the city. And don’t go thinking he’s going to uproot. Dyke opened Mira’s Napa Valley Education Center & Tasting Room on Queen Street this year with a big ol’ David Boatwright mural to celebrate. It’s pretty fancy and is in keeping with the former communications director for the Republican National Committee’s headline-grabbing moves. From heading up a wine biz 3,000 miles from his grapes to ocean-aging wine and calling the process “aquaoir” to getting called out by the FDA for said ocean-aging process to saying the FDA warning is a “manufactured crisis,” Dyke gets our own special made-up word: edutaster.
