Last year, the City of North Charleston hosted the Riverfront Race Festival, the center of which was a half-marathon. Evidently, that went so well the folks behind the race decided it was a good idea to go the full monty and host a full marathon. And thus the Charleston Marathon was born. More than 1,000 runners completed the marathon, which ran from the S.C. Aquarium to Riverfront Park in North Chuck, while nearly 3,000 runners finished the festival's other, shorter races, from the 5K to the half-marathon. Sounds like a successful outing to us. Here's hoping that the 2012 Charleston Marathon is even bigger.
