Two years ago, South Carolina finally legalized limited tastings and direct sales as part of tours in South Carolina breweries. That opened the way for local micros COAST, Palmetto, Westbrook, and Holy City to schedule weekly tastings for customers at their actual breweries. Over the last year, all four have promoted more special events and shared samples of seasonals and limited-release ales with no mess from the three-tiered system of middle men. A few sips of extremely fresh beer at the brewery can lead to a big purchase from a retailer down the road, so it's great for business all around.
