There's been a lot of talk and hoopla over fine gins this year. At one promotional event in August, the Hendrick's Gin Contest Crawl, the Ben Arnold Beverage Co. sent award-winning British mixologist Charlotte Voisey and two local guests on an eight-bar tour downtown. This reporter and others judged each bartender's best efforts at mixing a cocktail with the light-bodied Hendrick's Gin (made in Scotland with an infused mash of cucumber). Rue de Jean's Michael Moore took top score with a clever and elegant peach/thyme martini called "On Georgia Thyme." He rubbed fresh thyme along the rim of each glass and used a fresh peach purée with a splash of ginger ale. He garnished it with a thin slice of peach skewered with a small sprig of thyme. Rich and tasty.
