In the days leading up to the South Carolina GOP primary, an almost bewitching photograph of Rick Santorum circulated the news wires and media Tumblrs. The composition was the stuff of legends: the presidential candidate autographing a campaign poster, grinning maniacally as a storm of glitter was hurled at his face, one eye gleaming through the sparkling cloud. An angry staffer glowered behind him, but the anti-gay, anti-women former senator was unphased. The bomb was credited to the Occupy Charleston movement, with the culprit screaming "Occupy! Occupy!" as she was pushed away by the crowd. There was video of the event, too. Santorum never stopped smiling.
