Best House Show

She Returns From War

Staff Pick

Last summer, She Returns From War frontwoman Hunter Park released the band’s first EP Coyote Soda at Kevsko Alley. On that sticky, hot night, music lovers found their way to this magical little outdoor “venue” in a quiet neighborhood off King Street, a graffiti-covered alley near where Pop-Up Charleston director Peter Spearman once lived and welcomed strangers for the occasional house show. While Park and her bandmates played, someone spray-painted “She Returns From War” on the wall behind them and a bustling crowd stopped to listen to the band’s beautiful harmonies and heavy-hearted lyrics. The cops eventually came and that special moment in time passed, but we’ll always remember it as the most enchanting house — err, street — show ever.
