Born in Ireland, soccer player Colin Falvey has used his gifts as a defender to see the world. After playing for teams in Ireland, England, New Zealand, and Wilmington, N.C., Falvey settled down for a spell with the Charleston Battery starting in 2010. Under his leadership as team captain, the Battery won two national championships, and Falvey was named Defender of the Year in 2013. Toward the end of the 2014 season, as Falvey’s contract was running out, he was weighing his options. He’d made himself at home in Charleston, coaching youth teams and meeting regularly in pubs with a fan club called Falvey’s Army. Ultimately, he heeded the call of adventure and played for a season with the Kerala Blasters in the Indian Super League, where he helped lead the team to the championship finals. Now he’s back in the Western Hemisphere playing for the Ottawa Fury in the North American Soccer League.
