Songwriters Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent (a.k.a. Shovels and Rope) showed up in the City Paper music room last year with an update about the half-dozen partners who created Shrimp Records. Hearst and Trent had joined forces with musical buddies and good friends Owen Beverly, Joel Hamilton, Sadler Vaden, and Bill Carson to form an independent collective. The Shrimp imprint represented the collaborative pooling of resources and mutual support more than anything commercial or music biz-driven. Shrimp released a series of well-assembled albums and local compilations last year. They look ready to follow though in 2011 as well.
