Best Local Boy at Spoleto

Jack Hitt

Staff Pick

Hitt has made a name for himself outside of the Lowcountry for his work as a journalist and a contributing editor to This American Life, so we were pretty excited when we heard he’d be returning to his hometown on the Spoleto program. Hitt’s one-man show, Making Up the Truth, shared personal stories from his childhood growing up in the city’s gay district (where the notable transsexual writer Dawn Langley Pepita Simmons was his neighbor) all while delving into the science of memory. While the performance would impress anyone with a love of storytelling, Charleston-based members of the audience were treated to a fond and familiar walk down memory lane.
