What’s not to love about our Charleston RiverDogs? Every spring, the Joseph P. Riley Jr. Ballpark becomes a befitting home to America’s favorite pastime.
On the marsh with some of the best views of any professional sports venue, the RiverDogs are truly a treasure for Charleston residents and visitors alike. Whether it’s the never-ending cavalcade of cheesy theme nights, specialty food items, or sometimes-not-bad baseball, it’s hard to go wrong with a night at the Joe. In recent years, the RiverDogs front office has made an effort to include fresh and healthy food options at the ballpark in addition, of course, to creative takes on standard ballpark fare. If you’re going to be a true RiverDogs fan though, there are a few things you need to know: Friday nights at home mean fireworks after the game. Get all the wacky hot dogs at Dog World on the first base concourse. Thirsty Thursdays mean $1 beers and a DJ party on the top deck, but you can always get $1 pours at Dog World. If Charleston has any kind of exclusive streetwear scene, it’s for limited edition RiverDogs gear. So be sure to get all the special-release merch when it becomes available, from Rainbows tees to Los Perros Santos flat brims. (You know what I’m talking about.) —Sam Spence
